Carol Fogelsong
I was born in Miami, FL, and grew up in Columbus, OH. I’ve lived in Nashville, TN; Orlando, FL; Winston-Salem, NC; and Alexandria, VA. At various times in my life I’ve been a waitress, a computer programmer, and an administrative assistant but I’ve always been an artist.
I work primarily in soft pastels, but I’ve lately discovered the joys of oil painting. In the past, I’ve worked in colored pencils and acrylics. I’ve tried just about every form of two dimensional drawing and painting, but I always seem to come back to pastels. I just love the richness of the colors and the ability to get both soft textures and sharp details.
Landscapes are my favorite subject and I absolutely adore plein air painting. My favorite activity is heading out to a beautiful spot with my painting gear, a peanut butter sandwich and a water bottle. I will usually try to do several small paintings in the same spot showing different times of day and different angles. If a plein air study is particularly interesting, I will use it to create a larger painting.
I was awarded the A.B. Jackson Award for Excellence at the Gosport Arts Festival in Portsmouth, VA, 2010. I am a Signature Member of the Colored Pencil Society and was juried into their International Exhibitions of 1999, 2000, and 2002.
I am delighted to be part of such a vibrant art community in Santa Fe and to be surrounded by so much natural beauty. Please stop by my tent and say Hi!
