Robert James Johnson
Many of my paintings and photographs are simply celebrations of the skies and landscapes of the great southwest that I feel compelled to share. My recent work in the nearly 200 year old process of cyanotype photography is a departure wherein I take a side-eyed glance at our world using collaged juxtapositions of my own images, historic and found images, public domain images, advertising tropes, as well as portentous nuggets of text and images gleaned from popular culture and the golden age of comic books. I combine all this in ways to help me uncover some incongruities I see within myself and my relationship to society. Through these presentations, and I hope with a bit of humor, I invite viewers to form their own interpretations and uncover any hidden truths that may lie within.
