Joseph Comellas
Joseph Comellas, born and raised in New York, frequently visited the museums and galleries in New York City. This experience influenced Joseph at an early age to study art and begin a lifelong journey as a professional artist.
Joseph moved to Austin, Texas with his family at the age of 15. He continued studying and developing his art under the direction of artist Amado Pena. Joseph was selling his artwork in galleries and shows throughout Texas by the age of 16. He attended Southwest Texas State University on a full paid art scholarship. In 1982, he moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, for further education at The College of Santa Fe.
The New Mexico landscape with all its sensual shapes, organic forms and dramatic lighting defines the painting of Joseph Comellas. Depictions of mountains, mesas and buttes, arroyos and rivers create a sense of place and of journeys through that place in time and history.
Joseph shows his work to collectors who visit from throughout the world. This international audience is truly a blessing in the art and life of Joseph Comellas. His longevity in the market has allowed for constant development and growth from which a unique body of art has emerged.
