During my 30 plus years in academic medicine and dentistry (Oral Pathology), art was always an important part of my professional career. Through extensive work in intraoral photography, microscopic photography, and PowerPoint image development, I appreciated the degree to which composition and color supported the illustrations used in lectures and publications. This experience has had a positive translational effect on the paintings I do today.

I have been painting and drawing since my retirement in 2004 and have developed a style that I find balanced and satisfying. The medium in which I work is predominantly acrylic (occasionally watercolor). My paintings are typically geometric and hard-edged, and they can be described as representational abstractions, or as I prefer “representational geometrics”. I use predominately dilute acrylic paint on full size watercolor paper (22 x 30 in.). I develop geometric images from either sketches or from photographs. In the latter case, I will reduce the photo to basic geometric shapes and then select a color palate for painting. Straight lines dominate my work, although a few curved lines can be found. I give special attention to color, shape, and texture. My paintings can be grouped into one of several series including: Animals, Figures, Flora, Objects, Sangre, Pueblo, Chairs, Interiors/Exteriors.
