Dale McDonnell is an impressionistic landscape painter. The Impressionist painters, especially Monet and Van Gogh, have provided inspiration for Dale, and through his paintings he provides his own impression of nature. “Nature has a spiritual quality and its colors captivate and inspire me everyday.”

McDonnell utilizes soft pastels for his paintings with under coats of acrylic and pumice, he then utilizes an archival varnish to fix the painting and finally mounts the painting onto a board. Dale’s use of nontraditional techniques through the manipulation of pastel, acrylic and pumice bring variety and texture to his paintings.

Dale moved to New Mexico from downtown Minneapolis in 2012 where he and his partner built a home and studio on a small mesa west of Madrid (south of Santa Fe). “The serenity and beauty of the landscape of New Mexico and the west provide continuous inspiration for my work.”
